Lambeth Blog: Bishop Mike Hill
1 [7917] Posted by: Benny Thursday 24 July 2008 - 11:47am

Mike wonders whether he and Ruth Gledhill are at the same conference. Andrew Brown of all people said similar things in the Church Times about the difference between what actually happened at GAFCON and what was reported. And I certainly felt the same at NEAC a few years ago - I read accounts of meetings I'd been at which claimed the exact opposite of what took place. All of which makes me wonder whether journalists and their editors realise how much this sort of thing undermines the overall credibility of not only their reporting but their newspapers/radio/TV stations. After all, if they get it so wrong about the things of which I have personal experience, why should I believe them about the things of which I have no experience?

I hope that the bishops won't just accept this awful reporting. They and we deserve better. And perhaps we should all be much less ready to believe what the media tell us.
