He was a great commentator too. His commentaries on Matthew (NICNT) and Mark (NIGTC) are my first choices for each book. |

John,
I had not realized that Dick France was an Old Bradfordian until I checked out the article on Wikipedia. I remember with fondness his "The Living God" from the days when substantial theology could be done in a book which was short and cheap.

Especially sorry to hear this as I was at school with Dick, who was frighteningly brilliant as one of the Olympians of the 3rd year sixth, when I was a couple of years his junior. I recall a lovely cnversation with him on the stairs of Christ Church libary in Oxford on the occasion of the last of Professor Cross's New Testament congresses. Amen to your prayer, Kevin.

Dick France - New Testament scholar, Theological Educator, Encourager, Holy Man and inspiration to many of us, who might just still be considered younger evangelical theologians - died on 2nd February 2012. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. |

Thanks for the kind comments. It wasn't my specific intention to cast new light on "kephale", especially as I really am no expert at all on Greek (or on any of this, to be honest). Before getting carried away, it's probably best for me to say I think the e...
