Time to add to this long-lost thread - for its meaning see the first item on the thread - especially as today is the celebration of the turn of the millennium in Ethiopia. See a wonderful article in today's Guardian, 'Better late than never. Addis Ababa finally gets the millennium bug', by Xan Rice:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2166470,00.html

The anoraknophobic detail on the calendar is copied below:

In around AD525, the Roman church amended its calendar, placing the birth of Jesus eight years earlier than had previously been accepted. The Gregorian calendar, as it eventually became known, is the basis for the western calendar of today. Ethiopia, however, ignored the adjustment and stuck with the ancient Egyptian calendar consisting of 13 months (12 months of 30 days and the 13th month of five days).

Each new year falls on September 11, in western terms, except in a leap year, as is the case this year. As if their unique faith-based calendar was not confusing enough to foreigners, Ethiopians also measure time differently. The clock starts when the sun comes up. What is 7am to a visitor is 1am to a local; a quirk that can lead to endless confusion when ordering a taxi.

Hey

I did write a reply to this on Saturday, but think it's been ghosted away into the ether......

potato salad, green salad, ciabatta bread with roasted garlic and balsamic/olive oil dressing, bowls of olives, feta cheese salad.

guests: David Day, Elizabeth I, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth, Jurgen Moltmann (sorry but I have to), Madonna, Stanley Hauerwas, Harrison Ford, David Walliams, Kate Winslet, Daphne Hampson, Phyllis Trible.

Cool

I've just finished my mushroom burger, corn on the cob and rotisserie chicken (I don't know that that is......:-), strawberries and ice cream and a couple of bottles of beer, yum.

I've just finished a long chat with Germaine, she agrees with me on everything.;-)

My bbq:

home-made (by marks and spencers or some such posh nosh place) various varieties of burger - lamb/redcurrant, pork/leek, beef/prune oh and dahl burgers for the veggies, with coriander.

potato salad, green salad, variety of olives, ciabatta bread with roasted garlic to smear on and dip in olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.

home-made banoffi pie, caramel slices (from a local yummy shop), brownies and extra thick double cream.

Guests would be: Deborah (of Judges fame), Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jurgen Moltmann, Karl Barth (sorry, but I have to.........), Kendall Payne (singer, very good......), Mr and Mrs Incredible, my grandad (died before I was born), George Michael, Stanley Hauerwas, Jonathan Edwards (the theologian, not the triple jumper, although he'd be interesting too..) and Madonna.

Women Bishops: Church in all its Fullness posted by Bowman

Daniel's exegetical outline below makes more sense of Ephesians 5:21-23 than anything else I've seen posted here. The proposed rings make obvious intuitive sense, though I am still pondering the question what algorithm, if any, could (dis)confirm these intuitions. The rings lead one to see intimacy ...

The meaning of kephale in scripture posted by Bowman

Daniel-- I was hoping for new light on kephale, but did not expect it so soon! Your "B" ring lends support to the view of Secret Villager 4976 below who sees St Paul emphasising the unity of head and body in Ephesians 5. And as I myself note below, the coinherence of the members of the pairs {God : ...

Bishops accusedof not taking politcs seriouly posted by WATERANGEL

I understand what you are saying Dave. On the issue of Bishops having day jobs, and the time constraints on attending debates, I wonder with my admitted lack of experience whether there is not a way in which a better rotation system can be worked. But also a lot of valuable people who are fully trai...
