'To see Dr Wright's well-known gifts as a popular Christian writer deployed in the field of ethics is a stimulating project. The energy of argument, enthusiasm for authentic Christian experience, scholarly care, and creativity in reading the Bible, well known to his admirers, are all in full evidence here.'

NTW says we are drowning in the legislation produced by the Home Office; I agree but the ironic thing is that the Home Office also drowned. One of its secretaries of State described it as not fit for purpose and one reason for this is that it saddled itself with mountains of work that it could not hope to do.

In the light of Tom Wright's upcoming move from the Diocese to Durham to be Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St Andrew's, and the recent consecration of Mary Glasspool in California, there has been considerable media interest in this Fulcrum seminar with Tom Wright. It is on Tuesday 25 May 2010, 5.30pm for 6.00pm start at St James the Less, Pimlico, Westminster. Could I encourage people to book now? It helps with adminsitration if you register, though you can turn up on the day.

A very brief note about "decline" in a living society posted by Bowman

In the newsfeed, a column by Andrew Brown idly speculates about the reasons for the "decline of" the Church of England. If this sort of argument is not merely hateful it is naive. There is "decline in" every great and enduring institution in a living society. People die, needs...

The Atonement: East and/or West? posted by Bowman

...Faith... unites the soul with Christ as a bride is united with her bridegroom. By this mystery, as the Apostle teaches, Christ and the soul become one flesh [Ephesians 5:31-32]. And if they are one flesh and there is between them a true marriage... it follows that everything they have they hol...

Contemplation: a Journey of Discovery? posted by Roger Hurding

The journey of contemplation needs, I suspect, to keep its feet on the ground.  All temptation to assail holy ground over piously and unreflectingly should be resisted.  The Book of Ecclesiastes (Koheleth) cuts us down to size. In Chapter 3:20-2 we read, 'All go to one place; al...
