    “Simply because they were prevented from the promotion that some of them would have had ten years ago, had they been men, they are going to come to the job with a very finely developed knowledge of a lot of the things that are wrong with the Church of England today.”

    Women who’s ordination was delayed by the debate on the ordination of women are probably too old to be considered now. The first batch to be ordained will mainly be in their fifties. If their . has been a glass ceiling on their career, it is probably in the cathedral or as archdeacon rather than secular employment.

    The new bishop of Huddersfield has a long experience of parish life. The a priori claim that these women are better prepared is weak.We will have to wait and see.
