Welcome to the new Fulcrum website

Welcome !

As you can see, things are a bit different although we hope they are familiar enough for you to find your way around.

The front page has all the latest articles.  There is also a list of these and the latest Newswatch items at the bottom.  Once we have the Forum running this will also include the latest Forum contributions.

At the top you will see various options including Newswatch and Articles

On the right hand side you can find various ways of finding things on the site including

  • a search box with various options when you click on the cogwheel
  • a box with various tabs including latest and popular posts and recent comments
  • that box also includes tags which replace the old “index” terms and so list all articles on a particular topic
  • an archive in which you can call up posts (Newswatch and Articles) from any month in the past.

At the end of each article you can also click to find the other articles by that author.

On the new site you are invited to comment on any article or Newswatch item and comments appear at the end of the post.  To do this you will need to log in.  Existing users should have received information on how to set up a new password, new users can set up a new account when they first post a comment.  If you want to add a photo, add it at www.gravatar.com with the same email as you use here and your picture will appear with your comments.

We will soon be adding a new Forum.  This will provide an opportunity to start new discussions which do not fit easily under any particular article or news item.

We are very grateful to James Cooper for all his work in enabling us to get the site up and running in its new WordPress format.  Readers may be interested in resources on his Christmas site.

If you have comments on the site please add them below.

Thanks for your patience as we continue to tidy some things up and add some new features.  Enjoy exploring!

  1. I was not very familiar with the old site but have always appreciated the content. A couple of things are making this site difficult to navigate – on my screen is a vertical bar with facebook, twitter etc down the right hand side which covers part of the text. It is in the way and needs to go somewhere else! Filling in this box with the first 3 or 4 letters of every line missing is awkward.

Secondly the outlines for boxes to complete are so pale as to be almost invisible – may be my age but insufficient colour contrast in my opinion.

    • Hi Deborah, We’re sorry you’ve had a couple of issues. The site has now been made a bit ‘narrower’ so that should help with the sharing buttons on the left. You can also ‘hide’ them.

If you hover over the bottom orange ‘+’, you’ll then see a little left pointing arrow appear beneath it. Clicking the little arrow will hide the sharing bar on a page. There’s then a little right pointing arrow that shows the sharing bar again if clicked.

I’m sorry you’ve had trouble seeing the signup box edges. You should now be able to sign in and out of the site using the login area in the right sidebar, which has clearer box edges.
