10th Anniversary of Fulcrum: New Chair and 3 New Team Members

Fulcrum, the centre-ground evangelical Anglican think tank, celebrates 10 years and announces changes to its Leadership Team – a new Chair and three new members.

The new chair is the Revd John Watson, Vicar, St Paul’s, Tupsley and St Andrews, Hampton Bishop in Hereford Diocese, a Leadership Team member since 2007, who is also currently doing Doctoral Studies at Kings College London.

New Leadership Team members:

  • The Ven Alastair Cutting, Archdeacon of Lewisham and Greenwich. He is a former Prolocutor of the Province of Canterbury of the General Synod and a member of the Church of England Evangelical Council.
  • Dr Paula Gooder, Theologian in Residence with the Bible Society. A writer and lecturer in Biblical Studies. Her research areas are the works of Paul, New Testament Interpretation and the development of Ministry in the New Testament Period. Member of the General Synod.
  • Andy Walton, writer and broadcaster who is involved in Community Organising. He works for the Contextual Theology Centre, based in London’s East End. He is author of the report ‘Is there a “Religious Rightemerging in Britain?’ published by the Think Tank Theos.

The outgoing Chair, Revd Stephen Kuhrt, has been visionary in his leadership and writing. In addition to his book, Tom Wright for Everyone (SPCK, 2011), he has been a regular contributor of articles to Fulcrum and will continue to write. Other books by Fulcrum authors include Rowan Williams: His Legacy (Lion, 2013) by Andrew Goddard and A Conversation Waiting to Begin (SCM, 2009) by Oliver O’Donovan, which was originally a series of Fulcrum articles.

General Secretary John Martin comments: “As Fulcrum enters its second decade, with 789 original articles, it’s an opportune time to strengthen our Leadership Team and our commitment to publishing high quality online theological journalism.”

John Watson comments: “I am really excited about how we will continue to engage prophetically with major issues that face the mission and life of the Church in this age. We will offer sharp insight, relevant expertise and courage in thinking about Scripture, the Kingdom and society.”
