ANALYSIS: Why does Islamic State target Christians? – Lapidomedia

‘THIS MONTH, the soldiers of the Khilafah in Wilayat Tarabulus captured 21 Coptic crusaders, almost five years after the blessed operation against the Baghdad church executed in revenge for Kamilia Shehata, Wafa Constantine, and other sisters who were tortured and murdered by the Coptic Church of Egypt.’

  1. Rightly or not, this article lends support to the last pope’s view of an Islam that substitutes charisma and force for the Logos. It has nothing to ground a widely shared hermeneutic disentangling the practice of Muslim religion from the violence of Muslim origins. In that vacuum, a sort of ‘situation ethics’ can warrant time travel readings of quranic ‘Sword Verses’ in which C21 Christians who have lived with their Muslim neighbors in peace for many centuries become ‘really’ the ancient enemies of the prophet of Islam. That most Muslims do not feel existentially drawn to such readings does not seem to mean that they will abrogate them altogether as a matter of principled faith.
