David Cameron’s assertion that we are a Christian country has ignited a furious debate about the place of the Church in our national life and cultural identity.

  1. Perhaps I should clarify whilst jesus did not say I will send you broken people , that was because people are broken and he said “I will send you a helper” the helper may have a broken body but not a broken spirit.

    Anyway I wrote this the other day I thought I would share it.

    “TO BE A PILGRIM”
    But who are they?
    I met them as i travelled ,
    the countries far and wide.
    we laughed together,
    we ate together,
    we some times shared together;
    but who are they?.
    We shook hands,
    we gave good wishes.
    As along the road we went.
    I did not know who they were,
    or even if they were heaven sent.
    Now that sounds daft ,
    a rather British word,
    used to describe;
    that which does not make sense.
    But as we shared ,
    We knew what each other meant.
    There was no connection,
    Only the God we Knew.
    But some , well they did not know.
    I think how can that be?
    I look in the mirror,
    Where is the Jesus in me.?
    For if he were there,
    Surely he would glow.
    you know like the ready brek kid !
    Oh well maybe not.
    But you sort of get my drift,
    When i say,
    Jesus was in the stranger;
    I met along the way.
    I may never see them again.
    They were there, and then they were gone.
    But they left something behind,
    which will always be;
    The foundations of the journey
    which would carry on from there
    For thats what happens
    When you meet the stranger
    And you share.

  2. Having supported David Camerons assertion that we are a Christian Country , I was shocked and disappointed that his office threatened the Leaders of the Church in this way. I feel as though we need another U turn but one where the term “lessons learned ” means exactly that that lessons have been learned and that people are protected. As some of you would have been I was risen to believe we set an extra place at the table for the unexpected guest in need , having been homeless as a child I was acutely aware of always making sure I could offer someone in need a bed. It is very upsetting that now it is almost impossible to do what comes naturally and “feed my sheep” and care for the stranger. Can we turn this around ?Will our country ever be safe enough for us to be able to help the stranger directly. For whilst the lesson of not creating dependency has been learned , have we learned the other lessons such as the value of relationship and the value of acceptance, do we encourage and enable people to be the best that they can be, or do we put obstacles in their way? I am not a person for stating rights without responsibility, but I am a person who says that as a country and human race we need to create safety and thus provide an environment which fosters trust, that people may care for one another. The U turn needs to bnot about separating the church from government but about unifying church and government in order that the needs of the people which they both serve can be met. I am not in favour of disestablishment but I am in favour of free choice and proper protection measures being in place. I get fed up of feeling afraid and if I do I am sure others do too what kind of culture do we create where people are fearful all the time. I know that the government and the Church do and can work together , business is as much a part of that as everything else. The State Church really is not much different from the government they are a mixed bag, some selfish some not some administrative some pastoral it is the many sides of social structure justice and care.It is hard having to think can I trust the clergy as well as can I trust the government, but should I really have to think about how either of them may harm me.? again if I think it others must do too! at the same time do any of you really think that the vast majority of people want to see and experience any individuals being harmed in the fight for justice. There was and is only one Jesus who said “this is my body broken for you” God said he would send us a helper he did not say I will send you broken people. That goes for both sides .Let us have the opportunity to serve one another .
